World Record Bass - Marker 5a

George Washington Perry caught the 22 lb., 4 oz. lunker in Montgomery Lake near Jacksonville, Ga., in 1932. The record is now over 70 years old! It was Depression days and after officially weighing the huge fish they ate it! It took two nights to eat the thing. From what people say the heart of this man was bigger than the fish he caught. If people needed help he would go in his airplane to render assistance. He died in 1974 in the airplane he loved to fly. He never boasted of the record. He received $75 in merchandise for the catch; the next world record holder will receive 8 million dollars plus endorsements [This marker placed August 22, 2002]
