Marker 2b - Generals Clark, Coffee, Willcox

General John Clark once maintained a plantation next to old Ft. Clark (present Blockhouse Church site) and later became Governor of Georgia. He served as Foreman of the Grand Jury at Jacksonville, Ga., (Telfair Superior Court) in 1816. General John Coffee was a Congressman from Jacksonville, Ga., who, with Thomas Swain, built the Coffee Road from Jacksonville, Ga., to Tallahassee, FL in 1822-24. He served in Congress with Davy Crockett. Gen. Coffee was only dead man ever elected to Congress; voters didn't know he had already passed away. Gen. Mark Lea Willcox was an Indian fighter and served in many elected capacities including both houses of the Georgia legislature; he was also co-founder of the Georgia Supreme Court. [This history marker placed at Jacksonville, Ga., May 17, 2002, at site of old Sims Store.]

I am over joyed to see General Mark Lea Willcox as to what he look like. I was told by a relative of mines that I had some white people in our family and I'm trying to see if General Willcox is one of them. Thanks for the great information for my family tree.

What a wonderful site, to find pictures and "real stuff" (not just dates) of my ancestors. Still finishing the family tree, but descendant of Gens. Coffee and Willcox. This is great! Good job with your research.

What a great find - to see pictures of ancestors I had only heard about (John E. Coffee, Mark Willcox). Thank you for all your research.
